We want you to help us to understand our people data that describes our research culture and environment. We want you to use that data to help us understand what is really happening rather than what we think might be happening. And we want you to show us, with the data, how the research culture we are building can be evidenced.

This role sits in a unique place in the Ä¢¹½´«Ã½. Reporting to the Deputy Director of Workforce Development in the HR department, you will have full access to all our people data. You will also be embedded in the virtual team that is iteratively developing the People, Culture and Environment statement for our REF 2029 submission. This is the primary focus of your time with us.

…and make a difference for the people you will work with.

We know that we have weaknesses in our data and that we need to develop our ability to move from report generation to developing insights. The second part of your role will be to act as a subject matter expert, supporting your colleagues in the HR Management Information Team in both the development and delivery of the actions that will improve our data quality, and to acquire further confidence and expertise in the use of Power BI to create insights.

Ä¢¹½´«Ã½ the Workforce Development at the Ä¢¹½´«Ã½

Workforce Development sits within the wider HR Department and comprises specialist teams focused on People Consultancy, Reward, Academic Promotion and HR Management Information. We work collaboratively across priorities and projects, bringing together colleagues with different expertise to solve problems and deliver change.

Our work is guided by the University's Generous Leadership approach. We aim to create an environment where people can thrive, contribute and develop.

This is reflected in three core qualities:

 • Authentic – acting with purpose and building trust.
 • Empathetic – showing genuine care, respect and consideration for others.
 • Adaptive – responding positively to change and supporting flexible ways of working.

These principles shape how we work together and support our colleagues across the University.

Ä¢¹½´«Ã½ You

We are looking for someone who is curious, analytical and motivated by using data to answer meaningful questions. You will be comfortable working with large and complex datasets, turning information into clear insights that support decision-making and continuous improvement.

You will bring:

 • A degree-level qualification in a relevant discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
 • Advanced Excel skills, including data manipulation, analysis and reporting.
 • Experience of using Power BI (or similar business intelligence tools) to develop reports, dashboards and visualisations.
 • Experience of analysing and interpreting data to identify trends, patterns and opportunities for improvement.
 • The ability to present complex information in a clear and accessible way for a range of audiences.
 • Strong problem-solving skills and a methodical approach to data quality and accuracy.
 • Experience of working with multiple data sources and managing large datasets.
 • Excellent communication and stakeholder-management skills, with the ability to build effective working relationships.
 • The ability to manage competing priorities and deliver high-quality outputs to agreed timescales.
 • A commitment to collaborative working and continuous learning.

This role would suit candidates from a variety of professional backgrounds, including people analytics, business intelligence, management information, research analytics or data analysis. If your experience does not align perfectly with every requirement but you believe you have the skills and potential to succeed, we would encourage you to apply.

Further Information

This role is offered on a full time (36.5 hours per week) fixed term basis with an expected end date of 31/07/2029.

<![CDATA[Research Associate in Spectroscopy and Molecular Modelling for Zeolite Catalysed Alcohol-to-jet-fuel Catalysis (SS13564R)]]> /jobs/rss/click.aspx?ref=SS13564R /jobs/rss/click.aspx?ref=SS13564R Ä¢¹½´«Ã½ the role

This role is part of the UK Catalysis Hub where the practical work will take place at the Research Complex at Harwell (RCaH), working within the Hub laboratories.

The UK Catalysis Hub is a national consortium of 46 universities, 15 companies, the STFC Harwell science facilities, and 13 international partners established in 2013 to coordinate and advance UK catalysis research and connect it internationally. Now in its third phase of funding, its priority research areas include sustainability and net zero, digital chemistry, and advanced characterisation methods. One of its core missions is to support the training and career development of early career researchers via community events.

This is an exciting opportunity for a skilled and motivated postdoctoral researcher to work at the interface of heterogeneous catalysis and in situ spectroscopy, to understand molecular behaviour in zeolite catalysts for sustainable aviation fuels.

This one-year project brings together complementary expertise in catalytic testing and in situ spectroscopy (Lezcano Gonzalez, UK Catalysis Hub/Manchester) with atomistic modelling and simulation of microporous catalysts carried out by the main supervisor (O’Malley, Ä¢¹½´«Ã½). The work will focus on the alcohol-to-jet (ATJ) process, a key route to sustainable aviation fuels, and aims to establish how adsorption, diffusion, and competitive site interactions within zeolite micropores govern catalytic performance, selectivity, and stability.

The project will involve catalytic testing in fixed-bed reactors and in situ FTIR/DRIFTS spectroscopy to probe adsorption, acid-site interactions, and reaction intermediates. The successful candidate will be based at Harwell, gaining experience across multiple techniques.

This role offers a unique opportunity to develop an integrated experimental skillset working closely with expertise in molecular simulation, with strong links to national facilities (ISIS and Diamond) and future large-scale research programmes. There will also be opportunities to engage with industrial partners working on sustainable aviation fuels and advanced catalyst materials.

Both the UKCH and Ä¢¹½´«Ã½ are strongly committed to ED&I and RRI, with comprehensive strategies to tackle long-standing issues facing under-represented groups and key ethical issues, focusing on empowering, inspiring, connecting and upskilling more diverse leaders.

Ä¢¹½´«Ã½ you

Ideal candidate will have experience in the use of vibrational spectroscopy to study the adsorption of molecules into porous materials, and ideally synthesis and characterisation of zeolite catalysts.

Apart from excellent technical skills, good organisational, communication and presentation skills are essential for this role, as is the ability to work well in an interdisciplinary environment. Interaction with partners of the UK Catalysis Hub and participation in their events will be expected.

Further information

This is a full time (36.5 hours per week) fixed term role.

Advance Your Engineering Career Through Innovation and Impact

The Department of Mechanical Engineering is seeking to recruit a Postdoctoral Research Associate to investigate the fluid dynamics and heat transfer in rotating compressor cavities of gas turbines engines. The project is funded by the EPSRC in collaboration with the University of Surrey, Rolls-Royce and Siemens Energy. We are seeking a driven and capable individual to lead a high-impact project developing the next generation of hydrogen-compatible turbomachinery technology.

This position will offer you a way to apply your experience to a project that could shape the future of green energy technology and net-zero aerospace. As the Research Associate, you’ll lead a technically ambitious project with real-world application and long-term value. You’ll have the chance to:

 • Take ownership of a major research project to advance the understanding of fluid-dynamics and heat transfer through innovative experimental methods
 • Work at the intersection of academia and industry with support from both
 • Develop your skills in leadership, innovation, and strategic technical development
 • Gain access to training and a personal development allowance
 • Broaden your professional network through interaction with industrial partners

This role offers the autonomy of an academic position, with the added benefits of structured support and mentoring.

The goal is to investigate experimentally the buoyancy-induced rotating flow in a compressor cavity at low TRL. The research is underpinned by brand new instrumentation and to be conducted over a range of non-dimensional, engine-representative conditions. The study includes a fundamental exploration of boundary-layer transition from laminar to turbulent flow at high Grashof number. The experiments will be complemented by computational simulation at the University of Surrey, with the aim to scale data to higher TRL. The successful completion and implementation of this research will improve engine design methods at Rolls-Royce and Siemens for next-generation hydrogen-compatible engines.

Ä¢¹½´«Ã½ you

The ideal candidate will have:

 • A PhD in a relevant engineering field or experience in industrial R&D
 • Experience with experimentation and data analysis tools such as Matlab
 • Proficiency in CAD
 • Confidence working independently and engaging with multiple stakeholders

Further Information

This role is offered on a full time (36.5 hours) fixed term basis with an expected duration of 36 months.

For informal questions about the role, please contact James Scobie at jas28@bath.ac.uk or Gary Lock at ensgdl@bath.ac.uk.
