Payment terms and conditions

• Tuition fees are payable annually upon registration; the University allows self-funding students to pay in two instalments
  
• Students who have a Masters Loan, from the Student Loans Company (SLC), can pay in three instalments if the Direct Debit option is chosen during Registration
  
• The University has the right to refuse the option of paying in instalments to anyone with a history of late payments
• Tuition fees must be paid by a University accepted payment method
• Students paying via Flywire must adhere to
• As a student, it is your responsibility to ensure you have sufficient funds to pay your tuition fees by the due date
• If you have a sponsor, the sponsor must be approved by the University before any payment from them can be accepted
• Tuition fees paid by approved sponsors must be paid in one instalment upon receipt of invoice
• Tuition fees paid by any individual or organisation other than you or your University approved sponsor, will be reviewed and additional information about the payor's identity and relationship to you may be requested
• If you have prepaid a course deposit, it will be subtracted from the total tuition fees due, or your first instalment if paying in instalments, when you pay during registration
• The University has the right to reject any payment received which does not comply with these Terms and Conditions
• You are advised to familiarise yourself with fraudulent tuition fee scams which can result in students being defrauded thousands of pounds
• You are reminded you must never share your SAMIS portal login details with any individual or organisation in accordance with the University's Information Security Policy

Failed Direct Debits

If you pay your tuition fees by Direct Debit and the collection fails, you will be charged £25 for each failed attempt to obtain payment.

Student regulations

When you register, you agree to conform to all the statutes, ordinances, regulations and rules of the University.

The payment of tuition fees is governed by Regulation 2.

Failure to pay tuition fees

Under Regulation 2.4,, failure to pay tuition fees can have serious consequences including your withdrawal from the University. If circumstances have changed since you registered, and you are not able to settle your fees as planned, you should let us know as soon as possible.

Late payment charges

An invoice with an outstanding balance 10 days from the invoice due date may be subject to a charge of 1.5% of the outstanding invoice value. This charge will be a minimum of £15, and a maximum of £180.

If the invoice balance remains unpaid after a further 7 days then a second late charge of 1.5% of the outstanding invoice value may be applied. This charge will also be a minimum of £15, and a maximum of £180.

In total the maximum charge which can be applied to one unpaid invoice is £360.

Fees that have not been settled by your sponsor

If a sponsor has agreed to pay your tuition fees and does not do so you should note that you will become liable for your tuition fees if they remain unpaid beyond the agreed payment points.

The Credit Control team will notify you if this happens in your case, and you will be invoiced directly for your tuition fees.

The Student Loans Company (SLC) and your tuition fees

If you have told us your fees will be covered by a loan from the Student Loans Company, we will ask you to liaise with them if your fees remain unpaid. If we do not hear from you or the SLC, or if the SLC concludes you are not eligible for a loan, you will become liable for your outstanding tuition fees.

The Student Finance team will contact you about this, if this happens in your case.

Debt collection

Debts maybe forwarded to an external debt collection agency with international partners in the case of non-payment of fees.

Charges and refunds

Refunds for self-funded students

If you suspend or withdraw from your programme of study, you will be charged tuition fees only for the period you attended during the academic year.

For the purposes of tuition fee liability, a student is considered to be ‘in attendance’ from the official start date of their programme until the effective date of their suspension or withdrawal.

For undergraduate students, fees are calculated over a 30-week academic year, with no fees charged if you suspend or withdraw before the end of the first week of study.

For postgraduate taught and postgraduate research students, fees are calculated over a 52-week academic year. Any refundable tuition fees paid will be returned in the same manner as the original payment. No fees are charged during periods of suspension.

Refunds for undergraduate, Student Loan Company funded students

If you suspend or withdraw from your programme of study, you will be charged tuition fees based on your attendance at set points throughout the academic year.

Attendance points

If you are in attendance on each of the set points you will be charged the relevant proportion of tuition fee. The exception to this rule is if you withdraw from your programme of study before the end of week one in your first year of study no tuition fees will be charged. No tuition fees are charged during periods of suspense.

Undergraduate students who agree special arrangements for study will be charged a pro-rata amount based on the number of credits being taken.
